Petrochemical industry plans to plan for the "12th Five-Year Plan"

The “Twelfth Five-Year” Planning and Thinking Conference for Petroleum and Chemical Industry sponsored by the Raw Materials Industry Division of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and the Planning Institute of Petroleum and Chemical Industry was held on April 12-13 in Yichang City, Hubei Province. The meeting revealed that the development goals set by the "Twelfth Five-Year Plan" of China's petroleum and chemical industry are: The total economic output of the industry will maintain a steady growth, and the average annual growth rate of the total industrial output value will be maintained at 13% to 15%. By 2015, the total output value of the petrochemical industry will reach 16 trillion to 18 trillion yuan.

Li Yongwu, president of the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, pointed out at the meeting that during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period, China’s oil and chemical industry faced a more complex situation and a more arduous task, and the establishment of a “12th Five-Year Plan” for the industry would promote Substantial transformation of development methods to maintain the steady and rapid development of the industry.

Regarding the preparation of the “12th Five-Year Plan” for the industry, Li Yongwu made several observations: firmly grasping the theme of scientific development, accelerating the transformation of economic development as the main line, and taking a resource-saving, environment-friendly, intrinsically safe development The road to promote our country from the oil and chemical industry to a strong country. He said that since the beginning of this year, the turmoil in Libya, Egypt and other areas in the Middle East and North Africa, Japan’s major earthquakes and its nuclear leaks have had a major impact on China’s oil and chemical industries, highlighting the necessity of an in-depth analysis of the domestic and international situation. .

Li Yongwu emphasized that the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” of the industry should also clarify the direction and focus of structural adjustment, put forward new industries supported by the petroleum and chemical industries, further enhance the comparative advantages of traditional industries, grasp the commanding heights of technological innovation, and focus on the development of new chemical industries. Materials, energy conservation and environmental protection, and new technologies supporting new strategic industries such as new energy and bio-pharmaceuticals, improving the self-sufficiency rate of high-end chemicals, further improving the technological innovation system, and comprehensively improving the ability to transform scientific and technological achievements; An important strategic task is to win support from the national policy and promote the enterprises to better fulfill their social responsibilities and improve the safety and environmental protection level of the industry.

Chen Yanhai, Director of the Raw Materials Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, said that the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” of China’s petroleum and chemical industry is in a period of strategic opportunities. The guiding ideology for the preparation of the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” for the petrochemical industry is to adapt to changes in the domestic and international situation, with the market as the Guidance, vigorously adjust the product and industrial structure, enhance the ability of independent innovation, promote energy conservation and emission reduction, improve the efficiency of resource and energy use, and promote the industry to achieve long-term, stable and rapid development.

It is understood that in the "12th Five-Year Plan" of the petrochemical industry, CO2 emissions, comprehensive utilization of solid wastes, energy consumption per unit of added value, material consumption, water consumption, comprehensive utilization of resources, promotion of new technologies, research and development of new processes, etc. , put forward specific measures and indicators.

"Gravity Die Casting. A permanent mould casting process, where the molten metal is poured from a vessle of ladle into the mould, and cavity fills with no force other than gravity, in a similar manner to the production of sand castings, although filling cn be controlled by tilting the die."

Gravity Die Casting

Sometimes referred to as Permanent Mould, GDC is a repeatable casting process used for non-ferrous alloy parts, typically aluminium, Zinc and Copper Base alloys.

The process differs from HPDC in that Gravity- rather than high pressure- is used to fill the mould with the liquid alloy.

GDC is suited to medium to high volumes products and typically parts are of a heavier sections than HPDC, but thinner sections than sand casting.

There are three key stages in the process.

  1. The heated mould [Die or Tool] is coated with a die release agent. The release agent spray also has a secondary function in that it aids cooling of the mould face after the previous part has been removed from the die.
  2. Molten metal is poured into channels in the tool to allow the material to fill all the extremities of the mould cavity. The metal is either hand poured using steel ladles or dosed using mechanical methods. Typically, there is a mould [down sprue" that allows the alloy to enter the mould cavity from the lower part of the die, reducing the formation of turbulence and subsequent porosity and inclusions in the finished part.
  3. Once the part has cooled sufficiently, the die is opened, either manually or utilising mechanical methods.

Advantages

  • Good dimensional accuracy
  • Smoother cast surface finish than sand casting
  • Improved mechanical properties compared to sand casting
  • Thinner walls can be cast compared to sand casting
  • Reverse draft internal pockets and forms can be cast in using preformed sand core inserts
  • Steel pins and inserts can be cast in to the part
  • Faster production times compared to other processes.
  • Once the tolling is proven, the product quality is very repeatable.
  • Outsourced Tooling setup costs can be lower than sand casting.
